Q: Where will the GKAS Institute be held?
A: The Institute will be held at the St. Louis Give Kids A Smile clinic, located at the St. Louis University Center for Advanced Dental Education, 3320 Rutger Street, St. Louis, Missouri 63104.
Q: What is the application deadline?
A: The application deadline for the 2018 GKAS Community Leadership Development Institute was Thursday, May 31, 2018.
Q: How many applicants will be accepted to attend the Institute?
A: A total of 10 applicants are selected to attend.
Q: When and how will I find out if I have been selected to attend?
A: All applicants for the GKAS Community Leadership Development Institute will be notified of the selection committee's decision by the week of June 25, 2018. Notification will be done via email, so please ensure that emails from the ADA/GKAS do not enter your spam mailbox.
Q: What are the dates of the Institute?
A: The GKAS Community Leadership Institute will be held from October 24-27, 2018. You will be required to be present for all days of the Institute.
Q: Why should I apply to attend the GKAS Institute?
A: The GKAS Institute will provide an opportunity for you to share best practices, explore outreach enhancements for your GKAS program and get hands-on experience at the St. Louis GKAS Clinic, a model program for those interested in expanding their efforts in providing access to oral health care for underserved children across America.
Q: Are all of the meals covered during the Institute?
A: Several meals will be provided throughout the GKAS Institute, however there may be occasions in which participants will be required to eat on their own and provide the resources necessary to do so.
Q: Whom do I contact if I have questions regarding the application?
Q: Is having conducted a Give Kids A Smile program a prerequisite for applying for the grant?
A: You do not need to have previous experience in conducting a Give Kids A Smile program; however, the selection committee will look most favorably upon programs that are willing and able to make major programmatic decisions. Q: If I applied for the GKAS Institute in 2018, am I allowed to apply again in 2019?
A: Yes, you can apply for the GKAS Community Leadership Development Institute again in 2019 if you applied and were not selected as an Ambassador in 2018.
Q: What is the proposed agenda for the GKAS Institute?
A: The agenda is currently being finalized. It will contain some classroom lecture, open dialogue among the Ambassadors, hands-on experience, and observation of the clinics operations first-hand. We will keep you informed as the agenda is finalized.
