Emergency Disaster Grants
ADA Foundation Emergency Disaster Grants
The staff of the ADA Foundation and the ADA are deeply saddened whenever a disaster strikes our dentist colleagues, and we will try to help however we can.
The ADA Foundation offers an Emergency Disaster Grant Program, which may provide up to $2,000 of immediate financial assistance to dentists who are victims of a disaster.* These grants are designed to help address immediate emergency personal needs such as food, bottled water, clothing, blankets, medicines and medical supplies, emergency shelter, toiletries, and similar.**
ADA membership is not a requirement for grant eligibility. As a 501(c)(3) public charity, the ADA Foundation cannot legally limit its charitable activities to dues-paying members. We hope that receiving a grant from the ADA Foundation, when available, will help dentists feel the power of organized dentistry and help them know that their colleagues are here to support them as much as possible in their time of need.
Additionally, the ADA Foundation may provide Emergency Disaster Grants for 501(c)(3) Organizations Providing Dental Care Following a Disaster of up to $10,000. The purpose of these grants is to help nonprofit organizations provide needed emergency dental care in communities affected by a disaster.
You can also find additional disaster recovery resources on ADA.org.
Dentists who are victims of a disaster may apply for an Emergency Disaster Grant here within 60 days of the disaster event.
*Note: Hurricanes Harvey, Irene, and Maria caused unique and widespread disasters in the southern U.S., including Texas, Florida, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The ADA Foundation has committed more than $850,000 in Emergency Disaster Grant funds to dentists affected by these disasters and to the University of Puerto Rico School of Dental Medicine. This amount is more than 20 times the ADAF’s average Emergency Disaster Grant distribution from 2014-2016. ADA Foundation and ADA staff, volunteers, and donors have made a monumental effort to provide emergency assistance to affected dentists, whether or not they are an ADA member. The ADA Foundation’s many, ongoing fund raising activities have simply been unable to keep up with the overwhelming number of requests.
For the past four months the ADA Foundation has been dedicated to helping as many affected dentists as possible through its Emergency Disaster Grant Program, but as of December 6, 2017 all available funding has been distributed. Unfortunately, the ADA Foundation cannot provide any additional grants related to these disasters.
All of our colleagues affected by these disasters remain in our thoughts and we wish you the best of luck in your recovery process. If you have questions please contact us at email@example.com.
Those who wish to help their dentist colleagues who have been affected by a disaster may donate to the ADA Foundation, so that we may provide assistance to as many dentists as possible.
100% of donations made to support the ADA Foundation's Emergency Disaster Grant Program will be used to support dentists who are affected by a disaster.***
Thank you for your support.
**Emergency Disaster Grant funds cannot be used to compensate for property damage (to replace residence or dental practice property, dental supplies, staff salary, etc.), nor can they be used to replace lost income.
***Funds donated to the ADA Foundation Emergency Disaster Grant Program that are not distributed during the current disaster will be held and used to support dentists affected by future disasters.
