Introduction
Participating
in a volunteer project opens up tremendous
opportunities for new experiences
and career enhancements, allows one
to appreciate another culture or way of
life, and makes a positive contribution
to the community in which the project
is located.
There are a variety of programs located in underserved areas
around the world. A volunteer may choose to provide continuing
education to general dentists in Port-au-Prince and Cape Haitien;
practice dental treatment and preventative care in clinics
that serve schools, orphanages and remote villages in Nepal;
or if you have an academic background or clinical experience
you may opt to provide support to the faculty at the Universidad
Americana in Managua, Nicaragua. Your options are limitless,
the rewards are endless and your contribution to the advancement
of public health and your impact on the community served are
everlasting.
The ADA is a strong advocate of volunteerism and encourages
its members and others in the health community to share their
time and talents with those in developing areas across the
globe. This section is devoted to individuals interested in
oral health volunteer opportunities who wish to make a sustainable
improvement in oral healthcare throughout the world.
